This week 10th Combat Aviation Brigade wrapped up #FalconsPeak on a day filled with significance for the 10th Mountain Division and its history! Check out this video from their final air assault.

Operation Po Valley Breakout

Did you hear the sound of freedom yesterday? #FalconsPeak culminated in a final air assault, focused on tactical flight, throughout much of the Fort Drum area and post. We did so on the 73rd anniversary of the 10th Mountain Division breaking through German defenses and advancing into the Po River Valley in Italy during World War II, so yesterday's training was thoughtfully titled Operation Po Valley Breakout. Thanks to our infantrymen in 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division and 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division for coming along for the ride!#FlyToGlory! #ClimbToGlory!U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) XVIII Airborne Corps

Long before Fort Drum was the premier military training site in the Northeast, it was a center of rural American industry. We have a special history tour in the works to explore how the lands that now comprise Fort Drum were once used to support that industry, producing everything from paper to cheese! Join us May 2 for this step back in time. The buses will depart at 9 a.m. and return at 3 p.m. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required. To register, email drumhistorytour@gmail.com or call 315-772-5463 no later than Tuesday, April 24.

Depending on where you live around Fort Drum, your commute could look a little different next week! 10th Combat Aviation Brigade is kicking off Falcon's Peak on Monday and this exercise will have 10th Mountain Division Soldiers role playing throughout our North Country communities. We anticipate traffic delays on U.S. Route 11 and NYS Route 3 near Fort Drum beginning through April 18 when the exercise ends.

Motorists can anticipate heavy military vehicle traffic at various times during the training period. There could be longer than usual delays at stop signs and traffic lights.

Community members in Gouverneur, Degrasse, Saranac Lake and Cranberry Lake areas, in addition to Carthage and Lowville, will likely hear and see additional helicopter traffic during the exercise. They should be advised that at times some of the aircraft could be flying at very low altitudes.

Residents in the Tupper Lake area may see Soldiers directing simulation systems at the aircraft as part of the exercise. Local police agencies are aware of the training, and representatives will be on site during that time. This should not be a cause for alarm.

Members of the community with questions during Falcon's Peak can contact the Exercise Operations Center at 315-772-1048.

Today is Gold Star Spouses Day. Today we honor the families that gave so much of themselves to the service of this nation. The ultimate sacrifice made by one but borne by all of those that they love.

Here at Fort Drum and around the world, take a moment today to honor those sacrifices.
