The Train, Advise and Assist Command - South, comprised of the 40th Infantry Division and 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, participated in an Afghan-led Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Response Exercise, March 18-19, on Kandahar Airfield.

Resolute Support Mission, which directed and hosted the exercise, selected TAAC-S, commanded by Brig. Gen. John Lathrop, to lead the effort because of the extensive real world experience of 40th ID Soldiers. As a part of the California National Guard, the 40th Infantry Division is often called upon by California Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. David Baldwin, to provide support to civilian authorities during natural disasters, most recently during a series of California wild fires.

As a result, the knowledgeable leaders of TAAC-S were able share their experience with their Afghan counterparts during a constructive and beneficial exercise.
