Although we navigate through an invariable sea of change, our commitment to these principles must never waiver. Thank you for your professionalism and your steadfast devotion in standing the watch. On behalf of all our Sailors, past and present, our Navy wishes fair winds and following seas to the late Barbara Bush. Mrs. Bush joined our Navy family in 1945 when she married a naval aviator who would become the namesake for the aircraft carrier USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77). She gracefully showed her support for the entire Navy family as the sponsor of aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). Dana and I join our nation in offering our heartfelt prayers and sympathies to the Bush family.
Why We Need a Strong Navy? - Great conversation with The Heritage Foundation's Mass Ave Podcast team on the importance of the maritime environment, how The Navy the Nation Needs protects America from attack and preserves American prosperity, and how we are preparing the U.S. Navy for the future.
"I'm incredibly proud of the dedication that the thousands of Sailors from the ships, squadrons and staffs of the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group have shown in preparing for this deployment, and I'm honored to lead and serve with them. These Sailors have proven themselves a highly capable team, ready to tackle any mission that our nation calls on them to perform." - Rear Adm. Gene Black, commander of HSTCSG.
Congratulations to Commander, U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) Admiral Kurt Tidd, United States Naval Academy class of '78, on taking over the title of "Old Goat" from fellow '78 classmate, Commander, U.S. Pacific Command Adm. Harry Harris. The "Old Goat" decanter is awarded to the oldest Naval Academy graduate still on active duty.
BZ to the team aboard USNS MERCY T-AH 19 and all our Sailors supporting Pacific Partnership 2018, the largest annual multinational humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness mission conducted in the Indo-Pacific.
