Are you ready for the Dyess Big Country Air and Space Expo? Find out what you need to know about the upcoming airshow on May 12 and 13 in the article below.

“Not only will you get to be up close and personal with the machines that do the mission every day, you’ll get to meet the Airman the work the systems behind the scenes,” said Col. Brandon Parker, 7th Bomb Wing commander. “We want to see you here for this air and space expo. It promises to be a wonderful event.”

Heads up Dyess! EOD will be conducting live demolition training on the range from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. today. Please stay clear of Ammo Road during this time.

“I had the great fortune one afternoon that I wasn’t flying, a Chief Master Sergeant invited me to go out to the bomb dump so I could see the Airmen as they sweated without any cover building those bombs,” Parker said. “Those 18 and 19 year-old Airmen in the 120-degree heat are busting their backs all day to get these bombs loaded so we can go kill terrorists.”

What he found most fascinating about these Airmen, was after their shifts they didn’t go back to the tents. They sat at the end of the runways with binoculars to watch the bombers come back to land.

“They wanted to see if the bombs were gone. They wanted to see if you had dropped those bombs on the targets and you were returning back safely,” Parker said. “You see those Airmen, the ones that fix the aircraft and make the bombs, they might not ever wear these wings,” he paused. “But you will. You will. These wings carry all of their hard work and all their effort; their payoff. You carry that with you, it’s not a burden, it’s a privilege.”

Team Dyess! Don’t forget today is the World’s Largest BBQ at the Abilene Convention Center. There will be two serving times and the dinner is completely free!

It’s a typical day for one child in the city of Abilene, Texas completing schoolwork and drinking a juice box with his little brothers. Looking up from his book, he leans over and hands his youngest brother a toy to hush his soft cries before he begins reading again.

This is how 8-year-old Luke Klinger spends a normal day while his father, U.S. Air Force Capt. Jacob Klinger, 40th Airlift Squadron C-130J Super Hercules pilot, is deployed.
