MCAS Cherry Point SAAM 5K brings in record crowd

Service members assigned to units aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and their families participate in the 5th annual Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Month 5K at MCAS Cherry Point, N.C., April 13, 2018. More than 1,500 people participated in the event making it the largest SAAM 5K on MCAS Cherry Point. The run is intended to focus on the prevention and awareness of sexual assault and how to combat it.

EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE

An ACTIVE SHOOTER DRILL is being conducted at multiple facilities on Cherry Point this morning. Personnel may hear sounds of simulated gunfire during the exercise.

If you have business in a building where the drill is taking place, follow instructions from law enforcement, security and other personnel in that facility. If you believe there is a real threat in your area, follow your normal response procedures, including contacting emergency services via 911.

It is not too late to complete your 2017 Tax Return! MCAS Cherry Point Tax Center is open for business to prepare and electronically file your federal and state income tax returns, FOR FREE.

This service is available to all active duty, reserve, retired military and their dependents.

The Tax Center is open for walk-ins Monday-Friday from 0730 to 1630.

The Tax Center is located in Building 901 (former location of First Citizen's Bank beside McDonalds).

The event featured Easter egg hunts, inflatable bounce houses, an obstacle course, food trucks, the Easter Bunny and more. The Eggstravaganza allowed service members and their families to enjoy a free day of fun on the air station. Approximately 2,000 to 3,000 people attended this year’s Easter Eggstravaganza.

Did You Know?AV-8B Harrier• The British-born AV-8A Harrier first entered USMC service in the early 1970s.• The Marine Corps began its transition to the AV-8B in December 1983.• The aircraft is capable of vertical and short runway takeoff.• The Harrier produces 22,000 pounds of thrust which allows the aircraft to hover like a helicopter and also reach near-supersonic speeds. • The AV-8B Harrier is used for multiple missions including attacking and destroying air and ground targets, air to air defense, reconnaissance support and offensive and defensive support.

STOP THE BLEED

The MCAS Cherry Point Fire and Emergency Services and the Cherry Point Naval Health Clinic are offering free hands-on training to improve survival from life-threatening blood loss. Participants of this 30-minute class will receive a "Stop the Bleed" certification card as part of this nationwide initiative.

CLASS MAX: 30
DATE: 30 MARCH 2018 (Friday)
TIME: Every 30 minutes, from 0930 - 1500 (30-minute
sessions)
LOCATION: Jerry Marvel Training Building #4335, Room: 223
