Smoke and ash are no longer released into the environment as a byproduct of coal. Natural gas and fuel oils are now burned in the place of coal as a more environmentally friendly alternative. For the full story check out this week's edition of The Globe at your local news stands or online at https://goo.gl/TRJwuQ

Helping the environment at MCIEAST Part 1

Prescribed burns normally begin in January of each year and are completed by August. If the prescribed burn is near a roadway, signs are posted on either side of the burn area informing drivers of the possible smoke. If the smoke is determined to be too overwhelming for drivers, the road will be closed until the smoke has dissipated. Forestry technicians remain on site and monitor the area until the burn is completed. For more information visit http://www.lejeune.marines.mil/Prescribed-Burn-Notice/ or call the Marine Corps Liaison for Government and External Affairs at (910) 451-7645
