As we begin supporting FEMA's America's Prepareathon, it is only fitting to share flooding information as we are forecasted for some bad weather this weekend.

You can obtain or review the flood map for your area for overall flood risk at www.floodsmart.gov and enter your address. Your official FEMA flood zone map can be found online at FEMA's Map Service Center. Also, please monitor local area Emergency Management Agencies where you live: Santa Rosa County is http://www.santarosa.fl.gov/emergency/ or Escambia County, FL http://www.myescambia.com/beready

FEMA's Prepareathon motivates people and communities to take action to prepare for and protect themselves against disasters. Its chief goals are to increase the number of people who: Understand which disasters could affect their community, know what to do to stay safe, take action to increase preparedness and improve their ability to recover from a disaster. Prepareathon events and information mobilize people to take an active role in protecting themselves, their loved ones, and their communities.

NAS Whiting Field held a commemorative service following morning colors at the headquarters building to honor the Nation's Vietnam veterans, those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those that returned and those still missing from that conflict. Members of Team Whiting were in formation, and Executive Officer, Cmdr. Don Gaines spoke to highlight the contribution of the miltiary members who fought, died and served in the Vietnam War. During the Vietnam War's official duration, Aug 4,1964-Jan 27, 1973, there were nearly 600 U.S. POW's.
