As part of the Navy's resiliency efforts, and in support of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg hosted a counter destructive behaviors workshop April 16. Sponsored by Naval Supply Systems Command, the program included an All Hands featuring Ray Leonard Jr., son of champion boxer Sugar Ray Leonard.

President Donald Trump signed into law the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act designating March 29 of each year as National 29 to remember all those who served in southeast Asia. NSA Mechanicsburg is honored to commemorate the service of 1.842 million Sailors who served and the 1,631 who gave the ultimate sacrifice. We honor their commitment to our Navy and Nation.

NSA Mech held a successful active shooter/suspicious package exercise March 8 with the Navy Operational Support Center, Navy Exchange and the Cumberland County Special Response Team. Great team effort !!

The NSA Mechanicsburg Iron Fit results are in. To compete in this program you had to run, bike, swim or row either Olympic length, half iron man or iron man lengths. Forty eight people finished and the furthest distance traveled was David Spieles, 327.1 miles and Eric Fisler, 325.8 miles. Top military performers were Capt. Kyle Bryan and Lt. Commander Carrie Montgomery. The over achiever was Linda Donovan. Congrats to all finishers and top performers!!

To kick off the 2018 Military Saves Campaign, DoD has designated 26 February-3 March 2018 as Military Saves Week. Military Saves Week is an opportunity for the military community to come together with federal, state, and local resources, to focus on the financial readiness of military members and their families and help them reduce debt and save their hard-earned money. The Military Saves Campaign is a Total Force command program. It provides an excellent opportunity for leaders at all levels to motivate and educate Service members and their families. Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic is warning that the DoD Appropriation is scheduled to expire tonight, Feb. 8. Without passage of an FY 2018 Appropriations Bill or a Continuing Resolution, the federal government will no longer have the authority to obligate funds for anything other than essential operations. During a lapse of appropriations, federal employees are not authorized to work, resulting in a furlough. The shutdown may impact services. Tenant command employees should contact their supervisor or other authoritative source for more information on the furlough process.

A commemoration was held aboard NSA Mechanicsburg June 6th to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Midway, the battle that proved to be the turning point of the War in the Pacific.

As part of its commitment to the environment and in recognition of Earth Day, Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg unveiled a three-acre bio-retention (storm water treatment) project, Friday April 21, at 11 a.m.

This is the largest bio-retention site in the Navy and ensures storm water is filtered before leaving the base. It also complements existing storm water projects throughout the base.

Since 2014, the installation has invested $4.2 million for storm water management, constructing 20 different projects including rain gardens, roof down-spout planters, grass swales and bio-retention facilities.
