Airman 1st Class Kheenan Richards was a gang member before he enlisted in the Air Force. He now works for the 375th Force Support Squadron. Growing up in a toxic environment on the East Coast and seeing his younger brother getting involved in gangs as well, Richards decided things needed to change. His uncle, who retired from the Air Force, inspired him to join and gave him the tools he needed to become the Airman that he is today. (U.S. Air Force video by Airman 1st Class Kiana Mitchell)

To our wonderful military children: Home is where our hearts are. We will have many homes in our lives. Our friends will be found in every corner of the world, in every race, color and culture. We do deployments and TDYs. They are difficult but we are capable of doing hard things.

There are unmeasurable strengths, wisdom and peace, we must seek them. We learn to survive by being flexible, hard working, adaptable and to find joy in the journey. There are no goodbyes in our lives only "see you laters." We strive to leave each place better than we found it. We travel, we pack, we move only to move again. We know when one door closes another will open to new opportunities, growth, new friends, new adventures.

Our lives are sweet, trying, fun, joyful, sorrowful, lonely and miserable at times, and always full of unexpected blessings.

We love our country & grateful for our heritage. We honor the Fallen, we respect the Veterans, appreciate the Active Service men, women and their families and we show love, kindness & compassion to all.

We love you all so much and grateful for always being brave, kind, thoughtful and resilient.

Love,
Mama & Daddy

Gold Star Spouses Day of Remembrance

Air Force bases worldwide participate in the AFAF campaign, which raises money for charities that support Air Force active-duty members, Guardsmen and Reservists as well as spouses, immediate family members and veterans. The deadline is May 4! The charities are: the Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Enlisted Village, Air Force Villages Charitable Foundation and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation.

โ€œThe four affiliate charities of the AFAF campaign exist for the sole purpose of taking care of Airmen and their families from induction into the Air Force through retirement,โ€ said Bill Dโ€™Avanzo, Air Force fundraising chief at the Air Forceโ€™s Personnel Center. โ€œThese funds provide emergency financial relief, educational assistance and family support, and have a direct impact on the lives of Airmen and families.โ€

Scott AFB held the 2018 Key Spouse Appreciation Luncheon April 17, 2018, at the Scott Event Center. The event was held to celebrate our wonderful military spouses, our selfless key spouses and key spouse mentors. This yearโ€™s theme was โ€œMay the spouse be with you.โ€ (U.S. Air Force photos by Airman 1st Class Chad Gorecki)

โ€œI wanted the community around Scott to know our job [in the military] is [also] to protect kids and people who can't protect themselves. That's one of the reasons why I joined," said Staff Sgt. Johnathan Leuellen, who put over 850 hours into the remodeling of the recreation room at Caritas Family Solutions, a local residential facility for children recovering from trauma.
