Our Expeditionary Maneuver Support Directorate works to give Soldiers a suite of command platforms to choose from. The air beam shelter is one of those options and allows for rapid deployment and recovery of a shelter system. How fast? Researchers from our Soldier Performance Optimization Directorate were at JRTC and Fort Polk to conduct a study with the 519th Military Police Battalion to look at effects of equipment on Soldier mobility. The information gathered, including addressing integration of female soldiers, will be used to determine impacts to designs of vehicles, workstations, clothing and individual equipment. #sciencebehindthesoldier #peoplebehindthescience #dodinnovates U.S. Army U.S. Army Materiel Command U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command

As a science and technology facility...OF COURSE we know today is #PiDay! It's also Einstein's birthday and now sadly marks the passing of visionary Stephen Hawking.

So for the day we have a couple questions for you: one math based and one food based.

- Pi has long been noted as one of the most useful mathematical constants. Yet, due to the fact that it is an irrational number, it can never be expressed exactly as a fraction, and its decimal representation never ends. We have come to estimate π often, and all of these have been used as approximations to π in the past. Which is the closest one (we'll share the answer tomorrow)?

A) 3
B) 3.14
C) 22/7
D) 4
E) Square root of 10

- Do you have any good pie recipes either of your own or that you've made out of MREs? Let us know and we might share them (if that's ok with you).
