Shout out to the 55th Aerial Port Squadron members for completing a 60K Loader class while on Annual Tour to McChord AFB last month:
Maintaining a technological edge against our adversaries looks very cool:
Despite a windy, overcast cool morning, the annual Fourth of July parade in Vallejo had it's usual festive atmosphere, creative floats, and endless fun. Leading the parade right behind the Veterans of Foreign Wars color guard and a classic Chevrolet carrying post leaders was the Travis Air Force Base Honor Guard, and two marching contingents representing the 60th Medical Group and the 621st Contingency Response Wing. As the parade wound along the more than a mile route, people got to their feet, shouting out thanks, and rendering salutes, to the Airmen passing by. Travis Airmen have been supporting local community parades like Vallejo's for many years. Next up in the parade plan is Veterans Day in Fairfield.
As a mark of solemn respect for the victims of the terrible act of violence perpetrated at the Capital Gazette Newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland on June 28, 2018, the POTUS has directed all DoD buildings to begin flying the National Flag at Half-Staff immediately. The National Flag will be flown at Half-Staff until sunset this evening.
Independence Day Safety Message: 4th of July - those very words evoke images of cookouts, parades, and grand fireworks displays to celebrate our country’s independence. A strong emphasis on safety must be part of our equation. Take time to adopt a risk management plan before starting your holiday celebration. When making travel plans, consider the hazards and risks associated with driving long hours in heavy traffic. Also, consider the risks associated with boating, swimming and hiking. Innocent sounding activities can quickly turn into disastrous events. As professionals, we have an obligation to manage risk. Identify threats and risks, and then take the appropriate steps to eliminate or mitigate them. Enjoy the celebration of the birth of our nation and please have a restful and relaxing holiday!
The 349th Air Mobility Wing is hosting Operation Family Circle on Saturday, Sept. 8 from noon until 3:00 p.m. on base at Travisville Park. The event will include lots of fun and educational activities for kids of all ages.
Food trucks with great dishes will be on hand throughout the day. Spouses of currently deployed Airmen are highly encouraged to attend, as support agencies will provide useful literature and information for Airmen and their families.
