With the flying tempo and operations of the C-130J Super Hercules, maintaining the airframe is imperative to the mission success of the 317th Airlift Wing.

The C-130 is the workhorse of the U.S. Air Force and it is the only aircraft with the capabilities to land on almost any surface. With the constant deployment rotations to desert countries such as Qatar, Kuwait and Djibouti, Africa, the planes come back to the U.S. in need of cleaning from the dirt, debris and engine exhaust.

Last Friday at Dyess Air Force Base, the Air Force Global Strike Command commander formally recognized the heroism and extraordinary aerial achievement of the B-1B Lancer aircrew members involved in the May 1 in-flight emergency and resulting emergency landing in Midland, Texas. The actions of this aircrew resulted in the first-ever successful landing of a B-1B experiencing such malfunctions.

We are honored to announce… Yesterday at Dyess Air Force Base, the Air Force Global Strike Command commander formally recognized the heroism and extraordinary aerial achievement of the B-1B Lancer aircrew members involved in the May 1 in-flight emergency and resulting emergency landing in Midland, Texas. Gen. Robin Rand presented Distinguished Flying Cross medals to Maj. Christopher N. Duhon, Air Forces Strategic - Operations Division chief of future operations at Barksdale AFB, LA, and an instructor pilot with duties at the 28th Bomb Squadron; Capt. Matthew Sutton, 28th BS weapon systems officer instructor; 1st Lt. Joseph Welch, 28th BS student pilot; and 1st Lt. Thomas C. Ahearn, then 28th BS student weapon systems officer who has since completed training and is currently assigned to the 37th BS, Ellsworth AFB, S.D.

The 317th Airlift Wing celebrated its date of wing re-designation at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, July 6.

The 317th AW has a long lineage of performing tactical airlift duties, with a 70-year service in the U.S. Air Force. The 317th AW was established as the 317th Troop Carrier Wing on Aug. 10, 1948, and returned to its wing designation on July 6, 2017.

0930 - Squadron Tournaments (Football, softball, basketball, volleyball, kickball, relay races, tug-of-war, water ballon toss and capture the flag)
1130 - Cake cutting Ceremony at the Hangar Center parking lot.

Open to Families
Free movie: (Avengers: Infinity War) at 1300
Free all day: Outdoor pool, bounce houses, dunk tank and batting cages.
