What's a birthday without cake?
Fort Meade and area warrant officers got together for some yummy treats and to honor their 100th anniversary on Monday.
There are five grades within the U.S. Army warrant officer corps. A person is initially appointed as a Warrant Officer One (WO1), and progresses to Chief Warrant Officer Two (CW2) after 2 years. Competitive promotion to Chief Warrant Officer Three (CW3), Chief Warrant Officer Four (CW4), and Chief Warrant Officer Five (CW5) occur at approximately six year intervals for aviation warrant officers and five year intervals for those in other branches.
Warrant officers serve at all levels of the Army. Typically, junior warrant officers are assigned at the tactical level, whereas senior warrant officers are assigned at higher levels such as brigade and above, and also to positions on the Army staff at the Pentagon. In addition, warrant officers serve with Department of Defense, joint organizations, and other military services.
A portion of Rock Avenue on post, between Robert and Redwood, will be closed for the unforeseeable future. The road closure will allow for the razing of a condemned building, which could fall into the roadway at any moment. Detour signs are in place to direct drivers to alternate routes. We apologize for any inconvenience, but the action is necessary to maintain the safety of members of the Fort Meade community.
The US Army Warrant Officer Association, Chesapeake Bay Chapter members were up bright and early Monday to raise the colors in honor of the 100th birthday of the Army Warrant Cohort.
The Warrant Officer Cohort consists of today's technical experts. Although warrant officers in the U.S. Army can be traced as far back as 1896, the cohort wasn't officially established until July 9, 1918, when Congress passed legislation to form the organization.
We’re hoping our wonderful community can help our friend Alexa find her adult black and yellow cat, Asha.
Asha was lost yesterday in Odenton on Telegraph Rd. when her crate broke open in a car accident while being transported home from the vet.
Asha is 10 pounds with gold “eyebrows” above each eye. She is likely scared and hungry. She is not microchipped and is not wearing a collar.
If you see Asha, please contact Alexa at 571-970-8174.
