As part of its commitment to the environment and in recognition of Earth Day, Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg unveiled a three-acre bio-retention (storm water treatment) project, Friday April 21, at 11 a.m.

This is the largest bio-retention site in the Navy and ensures storm water is filtered before leaving the base. It also complements existing storm water projects throughout the base.

Since 2014, the installation has invested $4.2 million for storm water management, constructing 20 different projects including rain gardens, roof down-spout planters, grass swales and bio-retention facilities.
