MICC contract professionals at the headquarters and U.S. Army Fort Knox continue to support the U.S. Army's efforts in recruiting in support of the US Army Recruiting Command (USAREC).

Members of the MICC headquarters bid farewell this afternoon to Katie MacKenzie who has served as the acting chief counsel for the command for the past month and returns to U.S. Army Contracting Command. They also welcomed Lt. Col. Todd Hanks who comes to the MICC from U. S. Army North (Fifth Army) to serve as the command's new chief counsel.

Submissions are being accepted through Oct. 16, 2018 for the annual Maj. Gen. Harold J. “Harry” Greene Awards for Acquisition Writing competition, which invites individuals to candidly write about their insights, experiences, and ideas focused on Army acquisition.

Let's hear it for the MICC's Harry Staley who as one of 30 finalists vying for the National Federation of the Blind 2018 Scholarship Program was awarded the $12,000 Kenneth Jernigan Scholarship this past weekend! Funded by the American Action Fund for Blind Children and Adults, the scholarship is awarded in memory of Jernigan who is credited for changing perceptions regarding the capabilities of the blind in this country and around the world. Staley is a procurement systems analyst with the business intelligence branch for at the MICC headquarters on Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Earlier this year, contracting professionals at MICC-Fort Belvoir awarded a contract in support of the 947th Military Police Detachment for a specialized nutritional program in support of its military working dogs.

Harry Shatto of MICC-Fort Belvoir explained that while the requirement did not identify a particular brand of dog food, it had to meet particular nutritional values identified by U.S. Army veterinarians.

The detachment falls under the 289th Military Police Company, 4th Battalion, 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). The detachment is the second largest military working dog kennel in the continental U.S. and its dogs are capable of detecting explosives and narcotics.

As cadets report to West Point - The U.S. Military Academy each academic year, members of the MICC-West Point contracting office staff continue to support a variety of acquisitions for the academy and the installation's garrison. MICC-West Point wound down its support for the high visibility Cadet Barracks Upgrade Program in fiscal 2017, awarding contracts for renovation projects to Scott Barracks in 2013, MacArthur Short Barracks in 2014, and MacArthur Long Barracks in 2015.

Members of the MICC headquarters gathered on a hot July 2 in Texas at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston to recognize personnel achievements followed by a celebration of birthdays in the last quarter with an ice cream social hosted by Brig. Gen. Bill Boruff. The commanding general awarded Veronica Limon the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service for her outstanding support to the MICC Metrics Program while simultaneously supporting several command initiatives. Pamela Owens and Lauren Vanens were presented certificates for 30 years of federal service. Congrats to all!

On behalf of the U.S. Army Contracting Command, Brig. Gen. Bill Boruff officiated the change of command for the 410th Contracting Support Brigade, welcoming Col. Robert McDonald as the new leader, during a ceremony this morning on Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. Some MICC members may recall McDonald when he served as the commander of the 922nd Contracting Battalion. The 410th CSB is responsible for supporting U.S. Army South.

Although understaffed, members of the 901st Contracting Battalion last week completed support of the 1st Cavalry Division's Warfighter Exercise 18-05 at Fort Hood, Texas. The battalion integrated itself with the division's headquarters element to provide contracting advice.
