In about a month, selection results for the Navy’s newest chief petty officers will be announced. Our first class petty officers have been working hard to prepare for the next step during #CPO365 Phase I. Check out part of that journey as told by GHWB’s Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Christian Sherman, one of our candidates for chief this year. #FreedomAtWork (U.S. Navy video by Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Jerrett Ferrell)

Avengers,

My heartfelt thanks for your tremendous efforts today serving the entire Hampton Roads community with volunteer service at over 45 different venues. I had an opportunity to work alongside Supply, Combat Systems, Reactor, and Engineering at a handful of different locations; just a small sampling of the thousands of hours of service by GHWB sailors today. This was truly a remarkable day in honor of our namesake's 94th Birthday. I know he is as proud of you as I am.

While we were underway for President Bush’s birthday, we celebrated with cake on the mess decks, and we’ll continue the celebration now that we’re back in port by giving back to the Hampton Roads area with a community service day, June 18. Join us here on Facebook for photos and videos throughout Hampton Roads as nearly 900 Sailors let their service shine as 1,000 points of light in their community to honor our ship’s namesake.

Avengers, We are looking forward to meeting your families when you bring them aboard for family orientation day, hosted by the Ombudsman team. Ask your sponsor for more details and we hope to see you aboard!

United States Naval Academy Midshipmen visited U.S. George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) as part of their training to integrate into Navy life. While at sea, they fired rounds from our .50-caliber machine guns. Check out some of the footage and turn on sound to experience the full effect! #50cal #FreedomAtWork
